My Musical Theater Voyage of Discovery; The Letter L
[For the Record: LOVEMUSIK is in my Ipod, in full – not because I LOVED it but because I am devoted to Donna Murphy. I had a great time watching this show because of Donna and Michael Cerveris; but I’m not the biggest Weill fan and there are some supporting cast members I didn’t like at ALL and it’s hard to listen to them. I just can’t delete tracks from a Donna Murphy musical. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is classic and stays put, LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE is highlighted with (mostly) her tracks and Nancy’s – those big group numbers had to go, THE LION KING has been expurgated because some of the songs written for the stage play are not worth listening to (oh, you know the ones I’m talking about), LES MISERABLES has been expurgated because I was just never on that bandwagon – don’t get me wrong; I like Les Mis but I don’t LOOOOVE it, especially all those screaming group numbers. I tend to like the solos and I certainly won’t play the entire cd, so – cut, cut, cut. THE LAST SESSION is almost complete in my Ipod. I don’t like Bob Stillman so I cut his solos and left in all the cuts that Stephen Bienskie and Grace Garland take the lead on. LADY IN THE DARK – kept the whole show because I love it and I love Maria Friedman. That’s right, I went for her and not Gerturde Lawrence. Shoot me. I think I’m going to have to put Gertie and Mr Kaye in this Ipod, out of respect. ]
