My Musical Theater Voyage of Discovery; The Letter R

REX is the only cd in my cast album section R of my Ipod that I don’t already know…the others are RAGTIME and ROMANCE ROMANCE and I love both of those shows and listen to the entire score all the time. So let’s check out Rex…

REX is charming. I wouldn’t have thought a musical about the king of England would be that interesting or melodic but I found this cast album to be really a delight. I don’t think this show was a big hit and, in truth, I did make some deletions (you know, the big group numbers, which I am finding rarely interest me) but for the most part I left the entire score in my Ipod, especially Penny Fuller’s numbers (LOVE her). And Nicol Williamson has a really pretty singing voice!
